New Year, time to fill up the wardrobe

with 10 comments

If anyone dares to order this stuff in my sizes before I get my Visa, they are going to regret it. REALLY regret it.

When taking advantage of all the amazing items on sale right now, I try to ask myself these questions:

  • Are you sure you will be able to use it beyond this season? Either spend money on classic items one always needs in her wardrobe, or very special items you know you will love no matter how the trends turn. And make sure you have the guts to do it before splurging one those sequinned skinnies.
  • Do not buy an item because it’s really cheap if it a) is the wrong size (unless you’re going for the oversized look) b) will not go with anything in your wardrobe c) is actually plain ugly or horrible quality. You will only waste your money.
  • If ordering online, especially from stores you don’t have in your homecountry, take your measurement ten times before ordering. Returning the item would be a mess.
  • Check the customs charges in your country. Those designer pumps you ordered from the States might end up costing more than they would if you had bought them in your homecountry.
  • Hurry up, because the really awesome stuff will be sold out quickly. You’re not the only person with above average intellect, although it may seem the way sometimes.

PS: I realise that most of my wish list is hardly classic and timeless. To my defence, I have bought about a suitcase-full of wardrobe staples during the last two weeks.

PPS: I also realise that my blog is crap without outfit pics. The truth is that a) I forgot my camera when going home, and everyone knows that no outfit pictures is better than crappy mobile phone pics and b) I have been lounging around in pajamas most of the times anyways. I promise I will make more outfit photos as soon as I’m back in Germany.

What I wore last summer

with 5 comments

Topshop trench, H&M tee and skirt. My tights were cobalt blue, by the way, but obviously you can’t see it on black and white pictures.

Hello, long hair, hello, way too big breasts squeezed into a Minni Mouse tee (I’m contemplating on getting a minimizing bra, as it would make all of my tops look ten times better – any tips on anything that doesn’t look like something my granma would wear?), hello, overly photoshopped colours.

How I wish I could go out like this now, without risking pneumonia.

Now that the 90’s are back to the fullest, I need a pair of patent overknee boots to rock in the best “Pretty Woman” way with a simple minidress and an oversized blazer.

The Topshop Bambi/Bambi2 boots would be perfect, if only they were patent. Anyone knows what the fit is like on those babies?

Oh, and I need this dress. These two items would be the most delicious way to pop my online shopping cherry.

That leather dress

with 3 comments

While most of us already have most of December’s parties behind us, the most important ones remain. All of the dresses you had hidden back in your closet have been used up, and we all know you can’t wear that same dress to every single party. So one ends up needing a new one, and why not try something daring for meeting the new year, like, hmm, a leather dress?

Let me get one thing clear first. Daring does not need to equal prostitute. One can get away with leather skinnies and slutty heels. One can even get away with pairing that leather bondage skirt with lace stockings. However, you’ll have to try really hard to make a skin tight, low cut leather tube look classy. So the verdict is: Drop anything overly body-con, strapless or micro mini, and try an A-line shift dress, à là Chanel. ASOS, Acne Jeans (I especially love the combination of sequins and leather on that one) and Marc by Marc Jacobs all have classy leather dresses to choose from. (Although, honestely, the naughty little devil in me wants to get her hands on that vintage red bondage dress)

As if..

This is what I wish I would find underneath the christmas tree. Ah, if only my friends were a little richer.

  • Free People studded boots. Note to self: Run to the nearest vintage store as soon as you are in Oslo before heading to the nearest Do-It-Yourself store to get some studs.
  • Valentino coctail dress. It’s down to three hundred something euros at the local boutique. To buy or not to buy?
  • Some awesome sequinned leggings.
  • A pair of killer heels from Nicholas Kirkwoods A/W collection.
  • Unisex tees from American Apparel.
  • Boyfriend blazer from Topshop.
  • Falke overknees.
  • M.A.C make-up.
  • A year’s subscription to Nylon
  • Alexander Wang bondage skirt.
  • A Hello Kitty plush toy (Yes, I am indeed almost nineteen years old.)
  • A Chanel 2.55.

So, does anyone want to sponsor a poor fashionista with awesome chemistry skills and a taste for luxury?

Cardigan: Odd Molly Overknees: Indiska Shoes: Lille Vinkel Sko Beanie and tee: H&M

My outfit today describes exactly how I feel – like a glamorous bum. You know, like Mimi from Rent or Cassie from Skins. Those girls really master the glam grunge look. Because admit it, there’s nothing sexier than a troubled, high as fuck girl who does just what she wants and doesn’t care about what anyone thinks about her. And who has an awesome style you just cannot rip off. Who said you can’t mix a silk slip with white overknees and docs, or a thrifted cheetah print fur coat with leather skinnies and stripper heels. Viva la vie boheme!

Anyways, I found out this cardigan is also very much wearable as a dress, so I plan on experimenting more with different types of tights, stockings and overknees. I can actually see this one worn with lace thights, or with opaque black stockings with visible garters. Schmexy!
