Is trashy the new classy?
Ripped tights, stripper heels, visible garters and bras, chipped nailpolish and brightly made up eyes and lips. Things that would have made any fashionista wrinkle her nose a couple of seasons ago are seen on the runways, like dahling Alexander Wang (pics above) and on internet it girls. Something, that should come as no surprize, since as leather and lace replaced jewel coloured coctail dresses on the runway, the new designers’ muse is no longer a prim and polished princess, but a bad girl who doesn’t give a fuck (in a good way), partying the night away to punk rock.
I am not sure what to think of the new trend. On one hand, it looks great on fashion bloggers, like Karla rocking those stripper boots. I am also quite happy over the fact that I don’t have to make a fuss over ripping a pair of stockings or chipping my nailpolish on a night out. Because, honestely, who has the time to paint their nails everyday anyways? Or match your bra to your shirt for that matter.
On the other hand, however, I am terrified at the thought of what will happen when this trend comes to the masses, and the already trashy teens think it’s a good idea to run around dressed like hookers. Unlike the fashionistas, those kids don’t know where to draw a line, and how to combine outrageous pieces into an overall classy outfit. Can’t we ban certain trends for certain groups?
