That leather dress

While most of us already have most of December’s parties behind us, the most important ones remain. All of the dresses you had hidden back in your closet have been used up, and we all know you can’t wear that same dress to every single party. So one ends up needing a new one, and why not try something daring for meeting the new year, like, hmm, a leather dress?

Let me get one thing clear first. Daring does not need to equal prostitute. One can get away with leather skinnies and slutty heels. One can even get away with pairing that leather bondage skirt with lace stockings. However, you’ll have to try really hard to make a skin tight, low cut leather tube look classy. So the verdict is: Drop anything overly body-con, strapless or micro mini, and try an A-line shift dress, à là Chanel. ASOS, Acne Jeans (I especially love the combination of sequins and leather on that one) and Marc by Marc Jacobs all have classy leather dresses to choose from. (Although, honestely, the naughty little devil in me wants to get her hands on that vintage red bondage dress)

  1. I’m quite partial to the red myself- but i agree… that’s a hop skip and a jump to street-walker.
Hope you have a happy holidays!

  3. Lauren: Thanks, happy holidays to you too! The red dress is quite trashy, but after seeing pretty woman again yesterday, I’d wear it with pleater thigh high boots. Young Julia Roberts can truly pull off anything!
Luckystrike Louboutin: I don’t remember the particular skirt, but I loved that whole collection, especially the over-knee boots!
